Am I eligible for this visa?

If you receive a periodic and variable income from a legal source and are able to demonstrate it, you are eligible for this visa.

For example, if you have properties rented and receive monthly a rent, you can apply for this visa.

What are its benefits and restrictions?

Up to two years validity

It can be granted for up to two (2) years. The time granted is totally up to the Colombian government.

This visa admits beneficiaries

It allows you to bring your spouse and children under 25 with you as beneficiaries, once your visa gets approved.

No work permit

It does not allow you to work in Colombia.

No time accrue towards residency

Since it is a visitor-type (V) visa, it won’t allow you to add time in order to apply for a residency or (R) visa.

What do I need to apply?

1. Motivation Letter

You must submit a motivational letter explaining the source of your income and what you do for living.

2. Criminal records

You will also be required to present your criminal background check issued by the country in which you have lived for the past three years. This document must be apostilled for Colombia and officially translated into Spanish.

If you are from the United States, you may use either a State-level background check or an FBI background check.

3. Proof of income

To fulfill this requirement, you can present:

A) A document from an official entity (private or public) certifying the income paid to you. Examples include contracts, investment agreements, or similar documents. These must be notarized, apostilled, and officially translated.

or

B) Proof of ownership of properties in Colombia that generate income, namely, a Certificate of Ownership for any property in Colombia, accompanied by the current lease contract signed by your tenants.

The monthly income shown must be a minimum of ten (10) times the current Colombian minimum wage. As of 2024, the minimum wage stands at $1,300,000 COP

4. Health Insurance

You must have a health insurance policy that provides coverage in Colombia for risks including: accident, illness, maternity, disability, hospitalization, death, and repatriation, with at least one (1) year of validity.

We recommend Genki to fulfill this requirement, as it offers:

  1. A default validity of 2 years.

  3. The option to cancel at any time.
