Am I eligible for this visa?

You are eligible for this visa if you have a job offer or employment contract with a Colombian company and the company is willing to sponsor your application.

What are its benefits and restrictions?

Up to three years validity

It allows you to stay in Colombia for up to three years. The final time granted will be up to the authorities.

This visa admits beneficiaries

It allows you to bring your spouse and kids under 25, once your visa is approved.

Restricted work permit

Please notice that this type of visa only allow you to work for a specific Colombian company in the job position authorized by the government authority. If you are planning on changing jobs, or get fired, you must report that to the Ministry of Foreign Relations.

Time accrue towards residency

Allows you to accrue time towards residency. After holding this visa for five (5) continous years, you will be eligible to apply for a Resident type visa.


What do I need to apply?

1. Employer’s Motivation Letter

You must submit a letter signed by your employer, detailing the reasons why you are suitable for the job, the role you will undertake within the company and your professional qualifications. It must also address these two questions:

  • Why was a Colombian not hired for this position?
  • How many direct jobs does the employer create?

If the employer is a company, the letter must be signed by the legal representative.

3. Financial Proof from the employer

You are required to submit your employer’s bank statements for the four months prior to your visa application. These statements must verify that the employer’s average monthly income is at least one hundred times the Colombian minimum wage.

In 2024, with the minimum wage at $1,300,000 COP, the required income level is $130,000,000 COP per month over the past 4 months.

4. Contract Summary Form. “Formato resumen de contrato”

You will also need to provide a form completed by your employer called “Contract Summary Form,” which you can download here.

5. Qualification Proof for Unregulated Professions

If the job isn’t regulated, provide an apostilled copy of the professional degree or certifications of work experience that prove your professional qualifications.

6. Permit for Regulated Professionals

If the profession is regulated (Such as Medicine, Law, Nursing, Engineer, Accounting) both you and the employer must get the necessary permit or license from the competent Professional Council in Colombia. This will be mandatory when applying for second or subsequent visas.
